The project takes place in the Stadio quarter – ex zone 167B – in Lecce, one of the most problematic areas of the city, made up of lots of public housing. Nasca is one of the associations entrusted with space on the ground floor of an Arca Sud public housing building. The project foresees the provision of theatrical workshops for the children and youth of the quarter in order to transform this space into a space for children, a place for meetings and exchange, a place that stimulates new knowledge for the inhabitants and creates change and innovation.
The project foresees the realization of two workshops weekly, one for children (6-11 years old) and one for youth 12 to 16.
The workshop for children is conducted by a manager and, once a month, by an expert in various artistic languages (music, literature, cinema, contemporary art, circus arts) to activate and stimulate all the expressive qualities of the children. The starting point is play, both via the body through an amusing process of recognizing and accepting one’s human machine, and via words, in order to understand what it means to communicate most clearly and simply to a listener.
The workshop for youths is conducted by a dancer and experienced trainer working with dance and the manipulation of the body, and an actor/director that imparts the practice of theatre from its roots. The workshop aims to use the reckless and powerful energy of adolescence (the most restless years) to guide them and find common ground.
Finally, the project foresees going to performances to accompany the training being provided and complete the experience of the young workshop participants
