Workshops in acting and scenography to combat educational poverty through the power of culture and civic sense in the Rione Sanità in Naples.
THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
Objectives
Promote the relational, emotional and cognitive growth of the inhabitants of the Sanità quarter of Naples;
Bring art and culture to a vulnerable neighborhood.
Beneficiairies
Approximately 40 children and youths between the ages of 6 and 18 (acting class), and 10 adolescents between the ages of 8 and 18 (scenography class), many of whom risk marginalization and social exclusion in the Rione Sanità in Naples.
Activities
This project is carried out in the Rione Sanità in Naples with the aim to restore the neighborhood, thanks to the renewal of two slums confiscated from the camorra, into a welcoming place, giving back to the territory and its citizens via a series of free socio-cultural services for the children and citizens who live there.
The project entails the realization of a free, weekly acting class for children, and a class in scenography dedicated to adolescents. These classes motivate productive energy and change, aiming at the diffusion of beauty in its widest sense, to provide the inhabitants of the area diverse opportunities.
The acting class is inspired by the concept of theatrical games in which the participants are guided to reach certain objectives, such as: the discovery of one’s own body, the creation of a group, relationships on stage and off, unanimity, a relationship with music and, above all, the stimulation of one’s imagination. This kind of work becomes the basis for a dialogue with parents and, therefore, with the territory. The educational plan results in the composition and realization of a final show in which the protagonists are the participants of the classes.
The scenography class is composed of three distinct phases: the history of scenography, an approach to construction and, finally, the realization of stage sets and backgrounds. The final aim is to introduce the youths to a little known artistic profession.
The activities provided by Putèca Celidònia are motivated by the desire to provide diverse opportunities to the families of the area, an alternative to the streets and unsatisfactory work by creating a true, transversal cultural center with its own, specific sustainability.
