Integrated artistic workshops for youths, some of whom affected by eating disorders and in the care of the Italian Hospital Group in Guidonia Montecelio (Rome).
THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
Objectives
A continuation of the artistic/creative activities begun with a group of young women affected by eating disorders at the Villa Pia, the project stimulates the creation and sharing of an imaginary, possible other place by the young participants, enabling them to free themselves from their illness through personal growth unhindered by stigma, shortcomings or illness.
Beneficiairies
A mixed group of approximately 14-18 youths, among whom 8-10 between the ages of 16 and 26, patients at the Italian Hospital Group in Guidonia Montecelio (RM); interested public.
Activities
The project foresees the realization of artistic activities structured around 25 meetings of 3 hours each in experimental research that combines the language of theater with that specifically tied to dreams via a radio transmission in order to create a podcast. The participants are guided to take an imaginary trip together to give voice to a silent book, without words, that enables them to feel free, and that someone has faith in them. Inside the silent book they can express themselves without feeling judged, and are free to interpret all the images they have following the flow of their imagination and sensitivity.
The workshop starts with simple introductory exercises in an attempt to instill as quickly as possible the trust necessary to undertake a trip together. Starting with listening to self to a physical approach that is concrete and not mental about the themes explored, a common alphabet is constructed made of words, gestures and little group games. Using silent books, the participants rewrite the story in their own way in order to end up with a story that, even though it began with the same input, is enriched by each person’s individual interpretation.
In the second phase, work is done on the study and experience of the use of voice in recording a podcast and the creation of sound tracks based on interview techniques, group and individual exercises that put voice and body front and center. The personal writing of each participant contributes to the story of the workshop trip and describes it, illustrates it, perhaps remembering places where they were happy, or simply invented.
The third phase involves the mixing and editing of a podcast that is then presented in installments of approximately 5 audio-visual stations where videos of theater of gesture are also produced by the participants that were filmed during the second phase. All of this is recounted in the silent book, the trip undertaken by the participants who are authors and actors in this personal and collective story.
