THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
Objectives
Offer cultural tools and artistic techniques to the prisoners, with particular attention to the more disadvantaged youths;
Foster the building of a positive identity and personal narrative;
Stimulate non-violent means of managing conflict;
Give space to imagination and possibility in order to contrast a sense of stasis and the absence of a future.
Beneficiairies
Young prisoners being held in the Lorusso e Cutugno prison in Turin.
Activities
The project foresees carrying out three art and cultural workshops for the youths (18-24 years old) held in the Lorusso e Cutugno prison in Turin, in collaboration with the Ufficio della Garante and the Area Trattamentale. The activities will be aimed in particular at those with less opportunity to access formative and cultural activities.
A Cineforum is foreseen alongside the workshops, designed together with the participants and held in the prison theater. It should be a stable place for collective comparison, sharing and reflection. The workshops will include participatory video activities, a workshop held by a writing coach in the library and a workshop on designing outdoor spaces, which will culminate in a renewal of the courtyard and common areas, guided by the prison carpentry section.
The project also foresees occasions to involve the public in the work produced – videos, texts and art installations – both inside the prison as well as outside in the Vallette quarter, at the Campus Ainaudi and online. These occasions will promote a meeting between the prison and the citizens, offering the participants the possibility to be heard and recognized by the community outside that is attentive and present.
