THE PROJECT IN SUMMARY
Meetings in art-therapy, music-therapy and narrative medicine as part of the collective activities to re-elaborate violence for 4 groups of women in Bologna.
THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
Objectives
Diminish the sense of solitude and impotence faced by mothers subject to violence in the family unit, and diminish the impact of violence against mothers;
Promote and increase well being via empowerment and the deconstruction of the most common stereotypes that define the role of motherhood;
Recognize and value one’s internal resources, increase the knowledge of one’s experience and reconstruct faith in oneself and in one’s own decision making capacities.
Beneficiairies
Approximately 40 women subject to violence, among whom ten women between the ages of 18 and 25, and ten women who are mothers in the care of the Anti-violence Center managed by the Casa delle Donne.
Activities
Violence against women is widespread and structural, and affects all levels of society. It includes all forms of violence: physical, psychological, economic, sexual and stalking, and causes incalculable damage, both physical and psychological, to the women who submit to it.
This project, begun in 2025 with art-therapy and music-therapy for 10 young mothers, continues in 2026 with 4 groups. Each group itinerary is distinguished by theme and type of artistic instrument used, including art-therapy, music-therapy and narrative medicine, and involves a maximum of 10 participants per group: two thematic groups for women between 18 and 25 and mothers, and two groups aimed at women who have experienced violence. Art-therapy, music-therapy and narrative medicine help to deal with trauma in a multidisciplinary way. The bond between artistic tools, techniques for group support activities and collective practices offer a road to recovery from the wounds inflicted by violence through a holistic approach.
Working in groups aims to diminish the sense of solitude and increase a sense of belonging to a new context in which all experience has value and new, positive relationships can be built to redefine one’s experience by going beyond language as an element of expression.
Through art, music and writing, women are supported in a process of reacquiring their own bodies, transforming traumatic backgrounds and experiencing new forms of relationships in a protected, welcoming context. The aim is to build spaces in which the collective dimension not only alleviates solitude but favors new narratives concerning self and the emergence of a sense of belonging and solidarity among women.
