Artistic activities at the Centro di Aggregazione Multidimensional (CAM) (multidimensional group centre), located in the heart of Palermo – a space for socialization and insertion into the workforce of young adults affected by psychological disadvantages who do not study or work
THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
Objectives
To create educational opportunities and experiences of freedom for the young NEET;
To experiment with new forms of involvement so that the active participation of these youths in social and work spheres becomes the norm
Beneficiairies
Approximately 35 young men and women between the ages of 18 and 29 at risk of social marginalization who do not study or work (NEET), residing in Palermo; at least 30% of the beneficiaries are youths in the care of mental health services
Activities
The project foresees the realization of artistic workshops aimed at fostering the involvement and creativity of the young beneficiaries and, at the same time, conversations and reflections on what is being done. In particular, 6 workshops will be held: an autobiographical workshop where participants will reflect on and share, via the means and instruments of narration, individual, collective and community themes relative to their experiences living in the CAM; a juggling workshop that integrates dance with circus disciplines to offer playful, creative and vital experiences that aim at building a group ethic and facilitates expression and exchange via traditionally artistic disciplines; a cosplay workshop that favours playful, artistic and role playing expression, and competencies across the board aimed at building a sense of agency, self-sufficiency, socialization and cooperation as well as internal and relational resources; a graphic design workshop that joins artistic elements with the study and development of graphic and digital skills useful both to increase the creativity and expressiveness of the beneficiaries as well as to create innovative and original material for a project campaign; a creative recycling laboratory that transforms material destined for the dump into things that are artistic or useful to furnish the internal spaces of the Centre; a green economy video lab to create video content that will focus on the green economy, seen as relevant for different productive sectors.
The proposed workshops aim to provide value to and reinforce the resources and competencies of the beneficiaries and are carried out as an occasion to interact with their peers. In fact, also involved in these activities are young students participating in voluntary European or National Civil Services volunteer work, young interns and foreigners living in Palermo. The workshops, made up of weekly meetings, work on two levels: one is more personal and relational, with creative workshops to reactivate a sense of self and acquire transversal competencies; the other is focused on building personalized, non-standardized paths to employment in the field of the green economy
