THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
Objectives
Improve the quality of hospitalization of children with serious illnesses. Offer support to children and their families facing the difficulties of hospitalization through smiles, games and a sympathetic ear.
Beneficiairies
Approximately 1,100 children with serious illnesses hospitalized in the Digestive Endoscopic Surgery, Gastroenterology and Nutrition ward of the Bambin Gesu hospital in Rome; the children’s families and ward personnel.
Activities
The project aims to guarantee the high quality visits of the Theodora clowns to an ever greater number of hospitalized children, in particular those hospitalized with serious illnesses at the Bambin Gesu hospital in Rome, one of the pediatric centers of excellence in central Italy that has many young patients also from the south. Once a week, two highly specialized clowns visit the families and children hospitalized for long stays in the Digestive Endoscopic Surgery, Gastroenterology and Nutrition ward of the Bambin Gesu hospital. The clowns become special friends who help bring back smiles, who listen and create games and magic to dream and imagine, focusing on the child more than the patient.
In 2012 and 2013 AMI supported the training of high-level Theodora clowns to guarantee the high quality of service offered to hospitalized children.
